Tips for working
with Radio News ©

Radio interviews and television interviews are similar. However,
you don't have to worry about how you look on the radio.
Tips for Call-In Shows:
Expect anything. Prepare for cranks, compliments and no calls
at all.
If a caller gives his or her name, personalize your answer by
saying: "yes, John, XYZ Corporation is concerned about that..."
If calls require follow-up, be sure to give an action step to
follow.
If a caller is hostile toward your position, don't attack. Acknowledge
their right to feel that way, then firmly and calmly restate your
position.
Tips for News Shows:
News interviews are always short. Simplify your answer; make
it brief and to the point.
Put the most important information at the beginning of your answer.
News interviews are almost always edited. Don't say anything
you don't want used or that could be taken out of context.
Repeat information from the question as part of your answer.
If the question is edited out, your answer can stand alone.
Never say "No comment." Explain why there isn't sufficient
information to give a better answer.
